Colorado: Castle Rock apartment’s controversial policy banning firearms is thrown out
A controversial gun policy at an apartment complex for seniors has been thrown out after a 9Wants to Know report.The Douglas County Housing Partnership, a multi-jurisdictional housing authority, held an emergency board of directors meeting late Wednesday afternoon.Board members decided that the policy, which would have prohibited residents from having firearms in their homes, will not go into effect.

Timothy Peak and a female companion were getting inside a car in his driveway in Cleveland, Ohio when a pair of armed and masked men confronted them. After one of the criminals pistol-whipped Peak, the homeowner and Right-to-Carry permit holder retrieved a handgun from his car and fired at his attacker multiple times, killing him. The deceased criminal’s accomplice managed to escape the scene with Peak’s companion’s purse. Following the incident, Cleveland Councilman Mike Polensek showed support for Peak’s actions, stating “As far as I’m concerned, [the criminal] got exactly what he deserved… lead poisoning.” Polensek went on to say of the homeowner, “If he hadn’t had that gun, we’d be reading about him in a two paragraph story in the paper as another innocent victim of violent criminals looking to prey on him like jackals. [the criminal] picked on the wrong man this time.”

Sioux City Mayor Bob Scott is among a growing number of city leaders across the nation pulling out of a group call Mayors Against Illegal Guns.The group, spearheaded by New York City Michael Bloomberg and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino, has been an active advocate for gun control measures.Scott, who joined the group after taking office last year, said he unsubscribed because their political views have exceeded his. Scott said he left about five months ago.

Illinois: Many Local Governments Rush to Enact Last-Minute Gun Bans, But Few Succeed in Circumventing Statewide Regulation of Firearms
With enactment into state law of concealed carry legislation, House Bill 183, a new fight for gun rights in Illinois was started.  A clause included in this new law allowed home rule local governments to enact their own so-called “assault weapon” bans within ten days of House Bill 183’s enactment.  In the days preceding and immediately following enactment, a flurry of city council meetings were scheduled to discuss or pass a ban on popularly owned semi-automatic firearms.
