The combo tool for the M1A which is manufactured by Springfield Armory is used to disassemble and clean the rifle. It is a multipurpose tool and fits neatly in all the stocks. Another accessory is Thermold 20 magazine which does not jam like other metal magazines. Since they are made of nylon, they resist heat rust and even dirt. These dent resistant and non corrosive magazines will not have a scratch on them even if you throw or abuse them.

There is another magazine Loader manufactured by the Butler Creek which is quick and can be loaded without giving any sort of pain to the thumb. It can be loaded and unloaded easily without putting any stress on your fingers. US Study Finds Gun Ownership and Homicide Link
WASHINGTON – Researchers in the United States claim to have established a convincing statistical link between gun ownership and homicide, according to a study published on Thursday. Covering 30 years from 1981 and all 50 US states, it determined that for every one percentage… [News24 (Cape Town), via GunPolicy.org]

Aimpoint vs. Eotech

Posted on Thursday, August 29, 2013 in Uncategorized

Both these electronic target finders are famous in their own right and are market leaders. Therefore, it is quite natural that there would be an unending debate about which one is better than the other. And, it is also quite natural that users of either brand would be very loyal and would hardly, if ever, alter their preferences. Aimpoint is the chosen option for US military but that in itself should not give it a head start over Eotech as a real connoisseur would pore of product details and usability before making a choice.

Aimpoint gadgets are more durable and are able to function flawlessly even in extreme conditions. This makes them an obvious choice for those that use their guns in a more rugged manner. Moreover,

Aimpoint gadgets can be easily mounted or dismounted from the barrel of a gun as it is just a matter of turning a single knob.

The design of Aimpoint is more to many users who are not quite comfortable with the bulky, square box type design of Eotech. The other big issue where Aimpoint scores over Eotech is while the latter requires at least two fingers to operate its dual on/off switch thus making it that much difficult to do while keeping the gun steadily aimed at the target, the former has a single knob to do all the tasks.

Though it might not be that great an issue but lack of lens covers in Eotech exposes those to the elements and also accidental damage. But the single most important aspect where Aimpoint leaves behind Eotech by a great margin is battery life. While Aimpoint boasts of a phenomenal 50,000 hours of battery life, Eotech offers no competition at all by giving only 30 days of battery life. Thus, extra care and precaution must be exercised if one has an Eotech as any lapse in switching of the gadget when not in use might result in it being dead when required under urgent circumstances leading to real chaotic situation.
In Aimpoint, as it is a single bright red dot, it does not require centering that is often required in an Eotech to latch on to the target but it must be admitted that while shooting a target that is within 25-30 meters Eotech is faster and better as it provides a view of the entire target which cannot be missed if it is entirely within the square frame.

One other issue that needs to be mentioned is though Aimpoint boasts of a prodigious battery life of 50,000 hours, 3V lithium batteries are not easily available at retail outlets and that can become something of a bother once replacement of battery becomes necessary. However, such replacement might take place once in six years even if the gadget is kept permanently switched on right from the day it is purchased. So, it might not be that much of a bother when seen from a longer perspective.

But instead of passing a judgment, final choice between Aimpoint or Eotech should be left to the shooters themselves.

Review of the EOT 553

Posted on Tuesday, August 27, 2013 in Uncategorized

Review of the EOT 553

EOTech 553 is rock solid with the same ease of mounting and remounting that we associate with its older version of 552. The new version gives you more space for mounting PEQ2 as well as a magnifier. To start with the electronic aspect of the weapon, nothing has changed much as compared to the 552 from EOTech. There is basic electronic design with the difference that the internal parts fully blacked out. However, still a glow very close to the muzzle and optic window, which means that someone is able to see the bloom, may put you in some danger.

This unit is entirely water proof, allowing you to take it in rain and while crossing a river and you can submerge up to 66ft with it in water, though such circumstances are usually faced by the military people and not be the civilians. EOTech 553 comes with added height with the advantage that it helps in moving the optic window a bit higher. This, in turn, helps in dropping the front sight down to the topic window.

In keeping with the stringent parameters set by the fighting forces, EOTech has developed EOTech 553, with the model designed after EOTech HWS design.  EOTech 553 Holo Sight comes with man new features that SOPMOD Block 2 program requires. One of the main advantages of this new Holographic Weapon Sights from EOTech is that has incorporated holographic reticle patterns. These patterns are advantageous because they are quickly visible even in dark and any other light circumstances. With any shooting angle the pattern will always be in the center for a view to know the target. So, the aim point will not be obscured.   For the combat zones in urban areas and for close fighting, this weapon gives the military an edge over other weapons. The whole of the reticle pattern is clearly visible to the operator even when the laminated window has obstruction from rain, mud, snow and dust. This feature gives extra confidence to the operator.

EOTech 553 has all the features that made its older version 552 so popular. But 553 also carry many new advantages for the buyers and it is up to them to pick up the right one for their requirements. The new version does not mean that the older one is no more useful. Many may prefer keeping their 552 with the latest EOTech riser.
