By going with a 6-24x, you’re only losing 2x on the bottom end (having a low bottom power can be very handy on occasion), but you are gaining 8x on the top end. I’ve used the Vortex Optics Viper PST 4-16x40mm as well as the 6-24x50mm. Both are great scopes for the money, you can’t go wrong with either one. Just to throw another hat in the ring, look at the Sightron SIII 6-24x50mm. It has slightly better glass than the Vortex Optics and one of the best erector systems on the market.
