I also ordered the Magpul collapible stock, and pistol grip, all in dark earth. Does this mean you will be clearancing your “non tapco” parts like the Midwest Industries’ rail systems, magazines, and M16 bolt/carrier groups? I used to think just like you until I call the top shops in the country they all told me they’ll convert and sell draco’s without 922r compliant. 8/25/2010 2:27:26 AM I’ve done the drop-free bolt mod on all but my “collectible” SKS rifles. There’s nothing to it so long as you’re careful and take your time. I have a bunch of tapco mags for my 5.45×39 and they work great. They have a bit more mag wobble than my Circle 21 mags but work fine.

1/28/2003 5:30:10 PM I think the issue is probably less where the Aimpoint is mounted and more on how hard it is to get a goo consistent hold on a target to shoot tight groups with a 4MOA dot. Unless you have some reference point to make sure you are holding the dot in the same place, it is easy to introduce enough human error that your groups open up a bit. I found a target with a 4″ orange square with a 2″ white square center at a local range. It is great for shooting groups with dot sights because you can get an easily repeatable sight picture by aligning the dot with the square. I’d look at what references you use to get a consistent hold with iron sights and ask yourself what references you can use to get the red dot positioned on the same part of the target every time. No rounds Fired with it on. Of course, as in the case with LaRue Tactical mounts, this is greatly over-exaggerated, as it would take hundreds of on/off operations to weaken them. Note that this is not an issue with the Bobro mounts, as they continually self-adjust. So why don’t more people use spring-based mounts? Simple: more parts = more points of failure. That said, I’ve never seen ONE example of a spring-based mount failing in combat. Take it for what it’s worth to you. Who cares if they leave a mark on your rail? It’s a firearm, it’s not meant to look pretty, it’s a tool nothing more and nothing less. Do you care if your hammer has a mark on it from driving nails? If a mount locks solid to my rail and holds zero, thats what I care about. If the mount leaves a mark I couldn’t care less. For the love of all thing holy this shit has got to stop. For the record, LT mounts that are tightened properly WILL leave a mark. You know why? Because they are doing their job. Marks are just fine. Where the problem happens is if a pocket/dent is formed. As the weapon recoils, that pocket will continue to become deeper. Over time, the mount can become loose on the rail. I have access to some high speed video of guns being fired.
